life and work

Enzo studied journalism and didn't start drawing until he was 28. To date he has written and illustrated various picture books. As one of the leading Taiwanese illustrators he is especially through his book a year, students in 34 class A . This is Enzo's only book so far that has been translated into German and published as a German-Chinese edition. In Germany, Enzo is almost unknown as an illustrator. For one year, Student 34 in Class A is an autobiographical plan and reconstructs En Zuo's memories of his own school days in Taiwan in the 1980s, both philosophically and politically. Enzo's alter ego in the book is number 34 , a seven-year-old boy with hidden creative talent who skips school and is the black sheep in his class. While his classmates write top grades and are in constant competition with each other, number 34 prefers to go with his childhood friend into the woods, where they play and raise a tadpole, which is named Little Black One . After a tragic turn he loses this friend too. The artistic talent of number 34 wants his parents to immediately exploit for a professional career and overlook the fact that number 34 is just a child who has nothing more in need than a childhood. With a magical and depressing ending to number 34 ("a rebellious child disappeared in the woods and was never seen again by anyone") Enzo finds exactly the right pictures and words to describe a worldwide development, children from a very young age on capitalism and Practice a career, show it seismographically. For a year, pupil 34 in grade A joins a whole series of extraordinary picture books that poetically and powerfully depict the loss of childhood in different political systems and in different time periods, such as Chen Jianghong in his book An Grandfather's Hand or Iwona Chmielewska in her book Blumka's Diary . For Steffen Gnam from the FAZ , Enzo's book is a "journey through time into the psyche and history of childhood losses". At one point En Zuo writes in his book full of poetry: "If we are pushed forward, something is constantly lost" and "shows what optimistic Pisa studies put in the shade: school disaffection and refusal, teasing and violence among classmates" and practices "Criticism of tiger mothers and tiger states, knowledge drill and competitions" (Steffen Gnam).

In 2012 he was a member of the jury for the award The Extraordinary Book of the children and youth program of the Berlin International Literature Festival .
