Enzo Bianchi

Enzo Bianchi (born March 3, 1943 in Castel Boglione ) is the author of spiritual books and founder and former prior of the Bose Monastery and the ecumenical order “Comunità di Bose” .

Life and work

Bianchi studied economics at the University of Turin. He regularly writes articles for Italian newspapers. Books and essays by him have been translated into numerous languages. His book Pregare la parola (1974) was a. a. Translated into Dutch ( God ontmoeten in Zijn woord ), French ( Prier la parole. Une introduction à la Lectio divina ), Spanish, Portuguese, English ( Praying the word. An introduction to Lectio divina ), Polish, German and Czech. The German translation by Mathilde Wieman can be found in the libraries in three different editions (1988, 1997 and 2004). On May 13, 2020, Bianchi and three other members were asked by a Vatican decision to separate from the community for an indefinite period and to leave the monastery. He agreed to this request.

Honors and Appointments

The University of Turin awarded Enzo Bianchi an honorary doctorate in 2000.

In September 2012 he was appointed by the General Secretary of the Synod of Bishops with the consent of Pope Benedict XVI. appointed as one of the experts (“Adiutores Secretarii Specialis”) of the 13th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops from 7th to 28th October 2012 on the topic of “New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Faith”.
