The Epalang is a traditional knife from the southwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo , from an area between the Kwango and Kwilu rivers . These knives are used by the Pende , Ngul , Lwer , Dzing , Yanzi , Mbuun and Hungaan ethnic groups .

The blade of the Epalang is very broad and bulbous. Often it is rounded, so that the knife is also called a disc knife . But there are also longer ones.

The blade is made of iron , the handle is made of wood . The handle can be covered with brass or wrapped in leather . The average length is 30 cm with an average weight of 650 g.
