Ephraim Adler
Ephraim Adler (born May 21, 1855 in Lübeck-Moisling ; † January 20, 1910 in Nordrach ) was a German general practitioner and member of the Jewish community in Lübeck.
Life
His parents were the rabbi Alexander Sussmann Adler (1816–1869) and Hanna Fischl Joel (1820–1889). His sister Esther married Salomon Carlebach , who was to succeed his father as a rabbi.
Ephraim Adler studied medicine in Berlin and Freiburg. During that time he also attended the rabbinical seminary and worked as a teacher at the Adass Yisroel religious school . In 1882 he settled in Lübeck as a general practitioner. He was appointed by the High Senate to the Medical College and the Honorary Council of the Lübeck Medical Association.
He was a co-founder and an active member of the Misrachi local group in Lübeck. He also founded the Jewish choir 'Kaul Rinnoh', a Hebrew language course and in 1904 with Leo Landau the Esra Lodge in B'nai B'rith .
With his wife Agathe, geb. Joel, he had five children, of which Minna (1883–1968) was the oldest. Alexander (* 1884) was Mizrachi representative in the Berlin Palestine Office until he emigrated in 1938 and died in 1958 in Kvuzat Javne / Israel.
In the summer he had to close his practice for health reasons, moved to Nordrach in the Baden Black Forest, and in October took over the post of senior physician and director of a pulmonary hospital there, which Karl Hettinger had founded around 1899 and which after the bankruptcy of the Londoner Rothschild Foundation was continued.
