Ephrem Mekonnen Weldegabrel (born January 31, 2001 ) is an Ethiopian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Ephrem Mekonnen gained his first international experience in 2017 at the Junior African Championships in Tlemcen , where he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run in 48.87 s and with the Ethiopian 4-by-400-meter relay in 3: 11.89 min Won gold medal. The following year he retired from the African Championships in Asaba over 400 meters with 48.98 s in the first round and also did not reach the final with the relay in 3: 11.95 min. In 2019 he finished fourth at the Junior African Championships in Abidjan in 47.55 seconds and won the silver medal in 3: 10.99 minutes in the relay. He then took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time and was eliminated there with 48.67 s in the preliminary round, but finished seventh in the relay in 3: 11.58 min.
