The Equensworldline SE (self spelling equensWorldline ) is a payment processing provider based in Utrecht. In November 2015, competitors Equens and Worldline announced the amalgamation of the majority of Equens' activities with the comparable payment operations of Worldline; the existing Worldline holds 63% of the new company.

Services

Equensworldline is one of the largest providers of payment services for financial institutions in Europe. The range of products includes the processing and clearing of all types of payments in Europe:

  • Bulk domestic payments
  • Euro payments
  • Cross-border payments
  • Large-value and express payments
  • Paper-based or electronic payments

Equensworldline processes more than 7.5 billion payment transactions with a volume of around 10 billion euros annually. Customers include over 250 banks, including Commerzbank (Frankfurt, July 23, 2018), DZ Bank , over 1000 Volks- and Raiffeisenbanken, other cooperative banks (e.g. the PSD and Sparda banks ) and Citigroup Global Markets and more than 30 other private banks. Equensworldline also processes transactions for ABN AMRO , Fortis , ING Bank , KBC Bank , Rabobank and OP-Pohjola Group .

On September 1, 2003, the payment transaction area of DZ Bank was outsourced to the newly founded subsidiary Transaktionsinstitut für Payment Transactions Services AG. In addition to the two existing Equens locations in Germany (Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart), there were other locations in Munich, Hamburg, Hanover and Karlsruhe. In February 2006, the transaction institute merged with the Dutch Interpay to form the new company Equens. The company that resulted from the merger was called Equens NV and consisted of Equens Nederland BV (Utrecht) and Equens Deutschland AG (Frankfurt and Stuttgart). On July 17, 2008 Equens Nederland BV and Equens Deutschland AG were transferred to the parent company Equens NV. The latter was then converted into a European company (SE - Societas Europaea).

In September 2010 Equens bought Montrada GmbH, a former joint venture company of Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank , which became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Commerzbank after the Dresdner Bank was bought by Commerzbank. Montrada offers card-based payment transactions in Germany and Poland. In addition to its own products, Montrada sells through its partners such as u. a. Commerzbank or the iZettle white label products. Equens SpA emerged from a joint venture between the Italian ICBPI group and Equens. Since January 2011 Equens SpA has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Equens; The subsidiary was integrated in 2013 and has since been a branch of Equens.

DZ Bank recently held a 31.1% stake in Equens. Various Dutch banks (Ing Bank, Rabobank and ABN AMRO) held 49% of Equens and the Italian ICBPI 20%.

Worldline

Worldline is a listed payment service provider based in Bezons near Paris; The company was founded in 2004 within the Atos group in order to bundle its payment and e-services activities, which have been carried out since 1973. Worldline went public in 2014.

Transaction with Worldline

In November 2015, a strategic transaction between Equens and Worldline was announced, which was structured as follows:

  • 100% acquisition of PaySquare by Worldline: Worldline and Equens have reached an agreement on the 100% acquisition of the acquiring service provider PaySquare, a subsidiary of Equens. The PaySquare business will be integrated into Worldline's global Merchant Services & Terminals division.
  • Formation of the Equens Worldline Company The formation of the Equensworldline is planned through the merger of Worldline's Financial Processing & Software Licensing (FPL) business with Equens, with Worldline holding a 63.6% stake in the company.

The transaction by the two companies was completed on September 30, 2016.
