Erasmus Jonas

Erasmus Jonas (born October 10, 1929 in Berlin , † December 19, 1986 in Kiel ) was a German writer and historian .

Erasmus Jonas comes from an academic family. He was the grandson of the historian Fritz Jonas and the eldest son of the farmer Heinrich Jonas and his wife Erika Jonas, née von Patow from Mallenchen and brother of media politician Niels Jonas . Frequent stays at Gut Mallenchen in Niederlausitz were formative for him in his childhood and youth. Jonas grew up with four siblings in Schleswig. In 1951 he passed his Abitur at the cathedral school in Schleswig . He then began studying German and history in Freiburg / Breisgau, which he later continued in Hamburg and Kiel. During his studies Erasmus Jonas emerged as a writer of poems and essays. a. with the volume of poetry "Hidden in the Thicket", which he dedicated to his friends Harald Hartung and Jürgen Seifert .

Jonas completed his studies in 1961 with a doctorate under Karl Dietrich Erdmann . He received his doctorate with a thesis on "The People's Conservatives 1928-1933", where he was able to draw on the estate of Count Westarp , which was accessible for the first time . After receiving his doctorate, Jonas mainly worked as a writer and freelance publicist. He lived in Schönkirchen near Kiel.
