Ergash Karimov

Ergash Karimov ( Russian Эргаш Каримов, Latin-Uzbek Ergash Karimov , * 1934 , Uzbek SSR , † August 4, 2009 in Tashkent , Uzbekistan ) was a Soviet - Uzbek comedian, comic film writer and actor. During his career in the Soviet Union , he was often referred to as the "King of Uzbek Comedy ".

In his most famous film, Uchraschuw, Karimov plays a naive chemistry student who cannot decipher the molecular formula for water. He assumes that water does not contain atoms because they could be used to make bombs .

Many of his works, especially his appearances during the 1970s, are considered classics of Soviet and Uzbek comedy. Ergash Karimov also took on some roles in Russian-language and Uzbek television films .

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the independence of Uzbekistan in 1991, Karimov lost his job, was unemployed for several years and had difficulties getting along in the new state. According to his long-time friend, the director Ali Khamraev , he spent the last years of his life in Tashkent , where he lived on a low pension. He died on August 4, 2009 at the age of 75.

Despite his high profile in Uzbekistan, the media there, which are subject to state censorship, did not report his death.
