Wall painting by Henri-Justin Marret

The former rest home in Arès , a French town in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was built in 1912/13 and expanded in the following years. In 2000, the rest home was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .

The facility at the Bassin d'Arcachon was built according to plans by the architects Emmanuel Gonse and Charles Duval for the foundation of Sophie Wallerstein (1853–1947), the daughter of the banker Léopold Javal. The convalescent home was used to take in children who were sick with tuberculosis .

The chapel and dining room were decorated with murals by the artist Henri-Justin Marret.

The building ensemble has been empty since 1981 .
