Eric Sandberg, who was a member of Göteborgs Kungliga Segelsällskap , took part in two Olympic Games . In 1908 he was a crew member of the Vinga in the 8-meter class in London , which sailed for the medals with four other boats. Since the overall result was based on the best result of the individual races, the Vinga was not in the medal ranks after a fifth and a fourth place in the first two races. In the third and final race, however, she managed a victory, so that she finished second behind the twice-victorious British boat Cobweb from skipper Blair Cochrane . Sandberg and the other crew members Edmund Thormählen , Erik Wallerius and Harald Wallin won the silver medal, as did skipper Carl Hellström .
At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , Sandberg secured the bronze medal in the 6-meter class. This time he was the skipper of Kerstin , who, like the other Swedish boat, the Sass , once achieved third place in both races of the regatta . While Mac Miche from France and Nurdug II from Denmark competed for the Olympic victory , another race between Kerstin and Sass decided to win the bronze medal. The Kerstin prevailed, so Sandberg and his crew, consisting of Harald Sandberg and Otto Aust was, took third place.
