Erich Herrmann (politician)

Erich Herrmann (born January 7, 1882 in Beuthen , Province of Silesia , † April 28, 1960 in Fürth ) was a German politician ( DDP / SPD ) and writer . He was a member of the Prussian state parliament and city councilor in Fürth.

Life

Herrmann was an elementary school teacher by profession. From March 1919 to October 1920 he was editor of the democratic weekly Der Volksstaat in Breslau . In 1919/20, 1921/22 and from 1925 to 1929 he was a member of the party committee of the German Democratic Party (DDP). From 1921 to 1928 he was a member of the Prussian state parliament. In the early 1930s he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, he was removed from school service and lost his official status . From the end of 1933 he worked in a chemical plant in Fürth, where he was appointed director during World War II . Herrmann retired in 1944.

After the war he rejoined the SPD. In 1946 he was elected to the city council, where he was mainly active in the field of culture and popular education. In 1956 Herrmann resigned from the city council for health reasons.
