Erich Kopischke (born October 20, 1956 in Elmshorn ) was President of the Europe Area of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2009 to 2012 .

Erich Kopischke was born on October 20, 1956 as the son of Kurt E. and Helga Kopischke in Elmshorn. His parents come from East Germany and moved to West Germany shortly before the birth of their son Erich. Erich Kopischke married Christiane Glück in 1978 in the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Zollikofen, Switzerland . They are the parents of two daughters and five sons. The family lives in Usingen in Hesse .
education and profession
Erich Kopischke has completed a commercial education and worked as an independent insurance broker. Later he was managing director of the Nuremberg insurance group for ten years . He then accepted a job with Latter-day Saint Education at the Church of Jesus Christ, where he rose to become Area Director for Central Europe before being called to serve as mission president in Berlin . At the time of his calling as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy , he was the coordinator of the Church's educational programs in Frankfurt.
Church work
Erich Kopischke was called to serve on March 31, 2007 at the age of 50 as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was previously an Area Seventy. He has served as President of the Europe Area of the Church since 2009. As area president, he called upon Church members at an international conference service to "do good to others." In his first general conference address , he emphasized the importance of the missionary work of the Church. At two international congresses of government representatives and representatives of different religions in 2010, he spoke out in favor of respect for those of different faiths. As a young man, he completed a mission in Bavaria . In 2003 he was appointed President of the Mission in Berlin, which covered the area of the former GDR including all of Berlin. Prior to this calling, he held numerous Church offices including stake president , district president , high councilor, branch president, and counselor in two bishoprics .
