Erich Plenge (born September 15, 1910 in Sulingen ; † January 8, 1999 ibid) was a German author and newspaper publisher.

Life

Plenge was the son of newspaper publisher Dietrich Plenge and his wife Sophie, nee. Albers. After attending secondary school in Hanover , where he graduated from high school in 1930, he studied economics at the universities of Heidelberg and Bonn . In 1933 he graduated with a degree in economics. Plenge was already active as a journalist during his studies. When his father was threatened with expulsion from the Reich Press Chamber because of "political unreliability" , he took over the management of his father's newspaper publisher in 1937. With the amalgamation of the two Sulinger local newspapers and the creation of a joint district newspaper through the merger of the Sulinger and Diepholzer newspapers, he ensured a concentration of the press in the region.

As an officer in the tank destroyer, Plenge took part in World War II . In April 1944 he was taken prisoner by the Americans, from which he returned in October 1946. In 1949 he took over the rebuilding of the Kreiszeitung publishing company, which was expanded to include the Helmstedter Kreisblatt at the end of the 1950s . Even after his retirement, Plenge remained the editor and chief editor of the Alt-Hannoversche Volkskalender until 1993 , which was also published in his own publishing house. Numerous publications about his hometown Sulingen and the Sulingen area testify to his work.

From 1964 to 1982, Plenge was district chairman of the Association of Northwest German Newspaper Publishers. He was a councilor for the city of Sulingen and an honorary judge at the Lower Saxony Finance Court in Hanover.
