The EW Group GmbH (formerly Erich Wesjohann GmbH & Co. KG , also called Erich Wesjohann Group ) is an agribusiness company . As the parent company, the company consolidates the results of 28 German and 81 foreign companies in Europe, Asia and North America. Approx. 80% of its activities are in animal breeding and other areas in the fields of poultry genetics / poultry breeding, animal nutrition / animal health, grain storage, development and production of food additives for functional foods , mushroom breeding and vaccine-free production.

The management of the company consists of the businessman Erich Wesjohann (born June 2, 1945), his sons Dirk Wesjohann and Jan Wesjohann and Albert Cordts. The company is based in Visbek in Lower Saxony .

history

When the "Lohmann-Wesjohann Group" was split up between the families of Paul-Heinz Wesjohann and Erich Wesjohann at the end of 1998, the current PHW Group and the "Erich Wesjohann Group" emerged in 1999 . There are intensive business ties between the two corporate groups. Until the beginning of 2015, the EW Group used the “Wiesenhof” brand belonging to the PHW Group in its subsidiary Wiesenhof-Pilzland (since then trading as Pilzland Vertriebs GmbH).

Poultry farming

The company owns several poultry farms. This includes in particular the Aviagen Group, the world's leading provider of breeding animals for turkey farming and the world's number two in poultry farming. The group also includes Lohmann Tierzucht , the German market leader in the breeding of parent laying hens and convicted in 2011 for cruelty to animals (see corresponding section ).

Poultry processing

In 2015 it was decided to invest in the Plukon Food Group , a major Dutch butcher and one of the largest poultry groups in Europe. The brands of the Plukon Group are direct competitors of the Wiesenhof brand of the PHW Group of Wesjohann's brother Paul-Heinz.

Mushroom growing

The subgroup Wiesenhof-Pilzland , Rechterfeld was founded in 1985. Since the beginning of 2015, it has been operating as Pilzland Vertriebs GmbH, dispensing with the Wiesenhof name.
