Erich Westphal

Erich Westphal (born 1934 ; died August 3, 2009 ), was a German university professor for education for the disabled .

Life

Erich Westphal studied in Cologne at the curative education department of the Rhineland University of Education in Cologne and initially worked as a teacher and headmaster . In 1965 he studied psychology at the University of Cologne with a focus on Wilhelm Salbers' psychological morphology . In 1972 he did his doctorate with him on the subject of "Effectiveness units centered around mental events in a special school for people with learning disabilities" and began his university teaching as an academic adviser at the department for curative education. In 1975 he was appointed to the newly established special education course at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg as the first professor . He was significantly involved in the development of this course and established the concept of "life problem-centered education".

In 1999 he established a project for the educational rehabilitation of people after a stroke with the Rehabilitation Center Oldenburg and founded a new focus at the University's Institute for Special Education with the “ Sensorimotor and Educational Rehabilitation” department.
