Erico Spinadel (born May 6, 1929 in Vienna , Austria ; † February 25, 2020 in Pinamar , Argentina ) was an Austrian-Argentine engineer who specialized in wind energy .

Career

Spinadel joined the Argentine Representation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (CNEA) in 1956 , and in January 1959 he became the first energy expert to drive a nuclear reactor (the RA 1) under critical conditions. In this way, he enabled the use of nuclear energy in the southern hemisphere, which enabled both electricity to be generated and the use of radioisotopes to be used for hospitals and industrial applications. Between 1994 and 2001 he was Associate Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, Faculty of Engineering, Argentina. From 1986 to 1994 he was appointed Director of the Electricity Department of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Buenos Aires FIUBA. Since 1994 he has been Professor Emeritus at the National University of Luján, Argentina. In 1994 he was appointed President of the Argentine Wind Energy Association (AAEE). From 2008 he was regional director of the Latin American Wind Energy Association (LAWEA). and member of the board of directors of the World Wind Energy Association . From 1992 he was a wind energy consultant for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO-ONUDI and was sent as an expert to several missions in Indonesia and the Far East at the special invitation of the respective governments.

He successfully completed his doctoral thesis at the Universidad de Buenos Aires , Argentina, in 2004. Spinadel was an expert in the field of wind energy and his research on a multidisciplinary systemic approach for developing countries received international recognition. He was the author of seven books and published around 50 research papers.
