Erik Anders Allardt (born August 9, 1925 in Helsinki ; † August 25, 2020 there ) was a Finnish sociologist .

Life

Allardt was instrumental in renewing the social sciences in Finland in the 1950s and 1960s. From 1970 to 1980 he held one of the first research professorships at the reformed Finnish Academy , of which he was president from 1986 to 1991. He was visiting professor at universities in Germany , Sweden and the USA . He conducted research on divorces , changes in social structures, political radicalism, welfare and linguistic minorities. Allardt published 20 books and around 600 articles.

In 1985 he received the Svenska Akademiens Finlandspris ; In 1995 he was awarded the Finnish honorary title Akateemikko . He was a foreign member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and from 1988 a full member of the Academia Europaea .
