Erik Wilhelm Lindström (born May 29, 1922 in Helsinki - † August 27, 2015 ) was a Finnish bass player, vibraphonist, pianist, band leader and composer of jazz , pop and dance music.

Life

Lindström's father was a Swedish chemist with his own factory. The son learned typesetters and worked in his father's factory. In the 1940s he had his own band in which Rosa (as Rosie Andrews) sang, with which he won an orchestral competition in Finland. From 1946 he was a member of Ossi Aalto's band for three years and from 1948 to 1952 with Onni Gideon. From 1952 to 1965 he had his own Erik Lindström Band. He worked a lot as a studio musician, accompanied traveling musicians (recording with Peanuts Holland in 1950 and 1959 and with Benny Bailey in 1959 ) and also began to compose from 1951 (a bebop piece Pakaste for the Finnish All Stars). His Main Road 7 was one of the first Finnish jazz compositions to be recorded (by Manu Teittinen in 1954). Since 1957 he has led the radio dance orchestra alternately with Olli Häme . He later had his own orchestras and combos. From the mid-1960s he was a record producer.

His composition Muistatko Monrepos'n ( Monrepos , Park of Memories) was recorded by the singer Annikki Tähti (* 1929) in 1955 and became the best-selling Finnish record of the 1950s. He wrote many other Finnish pop songs ( called iskelmä there) with a jazz influence. He remained active until the 2000s. In 1974 he recorded the LP No money, no music with his compositions.

He performed with his quintet at the Tallinn Jazz Festival in 1967 .

The name of his wife Hillevi (married in 1948) served as a pseudonym.
