Erika Lorenz

Erika Lorenz (born March 20, 1923 in Hamburg ; † August 2, 2003 ibid) was a German Romance and Hispanicist .

Lorenz received his doctorate in 1953 in Hamburg under Rudolf Grossmann with Rubén Darío "bajo el divino imperio de la música". Study on the importance of an aesthetic principle (Hamburg 1956). From 1956 she worked at the Ibero-American Research Institute in Hamburg. She completed her habilitation in 1960 with The Metaphorical Cosmos of Modern Spanish Poetry 1936–1956 (Hamburg 1961). In 1964 and 1965 she was visiting professor in Bogotá and Medellín (Colombia). From 1969 until her retirement in 1985, she taught as a professor for Spanish, Latin American and French literature and linguistics at the University of Hamburg. Numerous texts on Spanish mysticism ( Teresa of Avila , John of the Cross , Francisco de Osuna , Ramon Llull ) were selected, translated, annotated and edited by Erika Lorenz. As in many of her monographs, she combined the Romance scholarly competence with the Catholic faith practiced since her conversion in 1956 .
