Erika Metzger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erika Metzger (* ??; † ??) was a German table tennis player who lived in Berlin. In 1928 she won the first German medal at a table tennis world championship.

After Metzger won the international German championships in Berlin in 1927, she took first place in the German rankings in 1928 and 1929.

This made her the first woman to be registered for a world championship by the German Table Tennis Association . She was the only German to take part in the World Cup in 1928 . Right away, she took second place: In the final, she lost 3-0 to the then Hungarian world-class player Mária Mednyánszky . She also won the silver medal in mixed doubles. These were the first medals that German participants could win at a World Cup.

At the next World Cup, she achieved her greatest success: In doubles, she became world champion with Mona Rüster . They also prevailed against the favorites Mária Mednyánszky / Anna Sipos from Hungary.

After 1929 the traces of Erika Metzger are lost.
