Eriko Hirose ( Japanese 広 瀬 栄 理 子 , Hirose Eriko ; born March 16, 1985 in Inagawa , Hyogo Prefecture , Japan ) is a badminton player from Japan.
Career
She started badminton at the age of 6 in the school club of her elementary school together with her older brother. There she had her first major success when she reached the 2nd place in the individual at the national primary school championships in 1996. Then she attended Nakatani Middle School in Inagawa and reached the 3rd place in individual at the 1999 middle school championships. When she attended the Yamada High School in Aomori , where her future teammates Koharu Yonemoto and Kaori Imabeppu , as well as Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa also went, she finished 3rd in singles and 1st in doubles at the 2000 Inter-High High School Championships . After school, she joined the Sanyo company on March 10, 2003 and played for their factory team and, after Panasonic took over the company in 2011, for their factory team.
Hirose won her first national title in 2004 in the women's singles. After a title break in 2005, she won again in 2006 in the individual. After another season without a title win, she was again successful in women’s singles from 2008 to 2010.
Internationally she won bronze at the Asian Championships in 2005. In 2006 she made it to the last sixteen at the Badminton World Cup . In 2008 she was up for the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing qualify and was there in single 9. In the India Open in the same year she was third, while in the Malaysia Super Series 2008 only reached the quarter-finals, where they in the previous year yet had made it to the semifinals. The semifinals were also the final destination of the 2007 Singapore Super Series .
