Eriosyce bulbocalyx is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet bulbocalyx means' (Greek) bolbos = onion, calyx = bud, calyx; with onion-like calyx '.
description
Eriosyce bulbocalyx grows individually with glaucoma-green, spherical to elongated shoots and reaches heights of up to 20 centimeters with diameters of 8 to 12 centimeters. The roots are fibrous. There are about 13 blunt ribs that are notched. The gray, strong thorns are strongly curved upwards and up to 3 centimeters long. They can be divided into five to eight central spines and eight to twelve radial spines.
The funnel-shaped flowers are narrowed at their mouth. They appear from older areoles and are straw yellow with a reddish throat. The flowers are up to 2.5 centimeters long and 2 centimeters in diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with wool and occasionally bristles. The short, egg-shaped fruits tear open at a basal pore.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Eriosyce bulbocalyx is distributed in the Argentine provinces of La Rioja , San Juan and San Luis in the foothills of the Andes at altitudes of 500 to 1000 meters. It was first described as Echinocactus bulbocalyx in 1937 by Erich Werdermann . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
