Eriosyce villicumensis is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet villicumensis means 'named after the location in the Sierra Villicum, San Juan, Argentina'.

description

Eriosyce villicumensis grows with almost spherical, light gray-green, whitish tinged shoots and reaches a diameter of 4 to 9 centimeters. The roots are short, conical tap roots . There are seven to eleven, broad and blunt ribs that are only slightly notched between the areoles . The thorns are black. The one or two upwardly curved central spines are 1 to 2 centimeters long. The six to eight radial spines are arranged in pairs and lie on the shoot. They are 8 to 15 millimeters long.

The funnel-shaped, orange-yellow flowers appear from young areoles. They are 2.8 to 3.5 centimeters long and have a diameter of up to 3 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with white wool and brown bristles. The spherical, dark brown fruits are dry and tear open with a basal lid.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Eriosyce villicumensis is common in the Argentine province of San Juan in the Sierra de Villicum . It was first described as Pyrrhocactus villicumensis in 1974 by Walter Rausch . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
