The Eritrean Commercial Bank is a universal bank based in Asmara and the only such institution in Eritrea .

It is a government-owned bank with 17 branches across the country. The bank has financial agreements with Citibank and Deutsche Bank for international money transfer.

history

When the former province of Eritrea gained its independence from Ethiopia in 1993, it took over the Eritrean offices of the Ethiopian Commercial Bank .

It was formally established in 1994 as an Eritrean commercial bank and officially certified as an institution .
