The Erkensruhrtal nature reserve with tributaries and rocks on the banks of the Obersee is located in the municipality of Simmerath on the Erkensruhr brook , starting at Hirschrott and ending at the confluence south of Einruhr with the Obersee of the Rurtalsperre. The Eifel National Park is on both sides of the valley .
Protection purpose
The habitats are to be protected for many according to the red list of endangered plants, fungi and animals in NRW . The area primarily serves to maintain a near-natural stretch of flowing water as a habitat for threatened plant and animal species and the conservation and development of natural habitats in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive: Red-backed shrimp , These biotope types can be found in this area: wet and humid grassland, near-natural unobstructed stream sections, rocks standing on the surface.
