The Erkenruhr and its tributaries

The Erkensruhr is a 12.3 km long right tributary of the Rur in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​region of Aachen , Germany . The upper course of the stream above the confluence of the Püngelbach is also called the Wüstebach.

The Erkensruhr rises on the edge of the municipality of Monschau on the B 258 , about 9 km southeast of the town center and 1 km north of the border with Belgium . The source is 616  m above sea level. NHN on the northwest slope of an unnamed knoll ( 631.5  m above sea level ) in the Pafferscheid forest in the Rureifel .

Flowing primarily in northerly directions, the brook first flows through the nature reserves Wüstebachtal and Erkensruhrtal with tributaries and rocks on the Oberseeufer , the Hirschrott and Finkenauel settlements and the Simmerath district of Erkensruhr before it flows south of Einruhr at 307  m above sea level. NHN flows into the Obersee on the right . An average bed gradient of 25 ‰ is calculated from the height difference of around 309 meters.

Catchment area and tributaries

Its 42 km² catchment area drains the Erkensruhr via the Rur, Maas and Hollands Diep to the North Sea .
