description

The area consists of the up to 60 meters wide floodplains of the Wüstenbach Oberlauf and the tributaries Schwarzbach and Viehbach. The brooks are part of the Rur river system . At the upper reaches there is a peat moss , a remnant of alder swamp and a narrow grassland fallow. Barwort and knotweed grow on the right side of the valley . A 400 meter long wet and poor pasture fallow takes up the entire floodplain, at the confluence of a left side stream up to 100 meters wide. Here are species-rich meadows of wild berries with large populations of yellow daffodils . The subsequent, narrower and somewhat deeper Kerbtal section up to the confluence of the Schwarzbach is lined with old spruce forests at the valley edges. Along the stream and on the lower slopes there are bushy wasteland and wet meadows. There are still alders, ash trees , sycamore maples and shrub willows by the stream . There are also extinguishing water ponds with reeds and spawning herbs in the valley . A former fish pond is located further down the stream. The value of the river valley system described lies in its ecologically valuable floodplain areas, especially in the Wüstebachtal.
