The Riffelsbachtal nature reserve is located in the municipality of Monschau , as well as the second nature reserve in Simmerath . The Riffelsbach rises in extensive spruce forests at the Rothe Stein forest house in a shallow, swampy trough valley and then mostly meanders through a deeply cut valley until it flows into the Rur near Hammer .

description

The upper course lies in a narrow wasteland. All spruce trees near the stream have been removed here. Accompanying the stream are pipe grass and grass clown stocks with small spring swamps rich in peat moss . At the confluence of a side stream on the left, an old alder swamp forest with stilt roots grows . The lower reaches are deeply deepened with up to three meters high steep banks in an old spruce forest. Immediately at the mouth there is a campsite and a fish pond .
