The Kleines Laufenbachtal nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the city of Monschau .

Protection purpose

The aim of the designation as a nature reserve is the preservation and protection of the habitats for many plants, fungi and animals endangered according to the Red List . In addition, the measure serves to optimize the area as a near-natural biotope complex with endangered biotope types in the country.

The reed plantations , the near-natural and unspoilt stream sections, the natural and near-natural standing water, the wet and humid grassland, the lean grassland and the natural rock formations are particularly worthy of protection . In doing so, emphasis is placed on the preservation and optimization of the Bachtal with its wet and lean grassland as well as the small bodies of water and the maintenance of the biotope network to the upper Rur Valley. Furthermore, the preservation of the natural rock formations as a geomorphological peculiarity and ecological special locations as well as the safeguarding of the climatic compensation function as fresh air supply for the town of Monschau in the valley are important.
