The Kluckbachtal nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the city of Monschau , in the valley between Rohren and Höfen .

The tributaries belonging to the Kluckbach arise in the partially intensively used grassland of the Monschau Heckenland . On the upper reaches of the Kluckbach and the side streams there are several natural fish ponds. The left slope below is a structurally rich biotope complex with lean grassland , wet grassland , gorse bushes , hedge remains , rows of trees mainly made up of old oaks and alders and several orchards . In the lower reaches of the stream is up to five meters wide. The creek bed is stony here. At the confluence with the Rur there is a mixed hornbeam forest .

Protection purpose

The habitats for many plants, fungi and animals in NRW that are endangered according to the Red List are to be protected .

The objectives are the conservation and development of the following natural habitats in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive:

  • Running waters with underwater vegetation
  • moist high perennial edges

The area is of particular importance for the following plants and animals:

These biotope types to be protected can be found in this area: natural and near-natural waters, near-natural and unspoilt stream sections, swamp and swamp forests , dwarf shrub heaths , alluvial forests , spring areas and adjacent rocks.
