description
Rur valley between Monschau and Rurtalsperre
The Rurtal in this nature reserve can be divided into two different parts. From Monschau to Grünenthal, the valley is rather narrow. The Rur takes up almost the entire width. The valley slopes are steep with vertical rock faces in places. The water is of high quality which is due to the occurrence of numerous insect larvae such B. caddis flies or mayflies is displayed. Here is also an almost closed border of wooded banks. Below Grünenthal, the valley floor is 100 to 240 meters wide and flows through grassland. South of Hammer , on a north slope, there is a steep slope with a spring forest planted with a ravine forest. The grassland here is mostly drained with ryegrass pastures and mountain oat meadows. At the drainage ditches, you can find meadow knot , snake knotweed and wood cranesbill . Far to the east there are small wet pastures and wet grassland fallow. A larger maedesweed corridor with sprinkled spring corridor and sedge stock south of Dedenborn shows the first signs of encroachment with shrub willows.
Middle Rurtal with the rock formations of the Perdsley and Wiselsley (sub-area Rurtalhang southeast of Monschau)
The area comprises the northern section of the slope between Monschau and the confluence of the Klucksbach. The valley is cut deep. The vegetation consists predominantly of coniferous forests and older beech and oak forests . In small areas there are fallow and extensively used meadows. Here are source outlets on the upper slope. Due to the northern exposure of the steep slopes, the remains of the deciduous forest have the character of a gorge forest in places . Here the moon viole can be found in the undergrowth. A special location is a rock formation. The rock is up to ten meters high and overgrown accordingly.
Middle Rurtal with the rock formations of the Perdsley and Wiselsley (sub-area Menzerheck, Perdsley and Wiselsley)
In this part of the corridor is oak forest and rock formations with the name Perds and Wiselsley. A two-kilometer section of the left Rur valley near Grünenthal is entirely overgrown with oak forest. The fact that it has multiple roots suggests that it emerged from Niederwald . The slopes are steep and interspersed with cliffs and rocks. In the lower reaches of opening into the Roer page Bach are alder , on the upper reaches an ash - sycamore - ravine forest with a lot of honesty . At the eastern edge of the area is a small grassland area, which is divided by rows of hornbeam and spruce trees .
