The Venn Plateau nature reserve near Mützenich is located in the area of ​​the city of Monschau , between Mützenich and the Belgian border.

description

The area comprises two areas near Mützenich on the Belgian border, which are separated by the L 214. In the meantime the spruce trees have been largely removed and rewetting with the associated plants can clearly be seen. In one part there is still a large pingo with an open water surface.

Protection purpose

The habitats are to be protected for many according to the red list of endangered plants, fungi and animals in NRW .

The objectives are the conservation and development of the following natural habitats in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive:

• Degraded raised bogs that can still be renatured
• Transitional and swinging lawn bogs
• Dystrophic lakes

The area is of particular importance for the following plants and animals:

• Round-leaved sundew
• Diverting cotton grass
• Fever clover
• Cranberry
• Bogberry
• Common redstart

These biotope types to be protected can be found in this area: wet and humid grassland, natural and semi-natural waters, poor meadows , bogs, swamps , swamp and swamp forests , dwarf shrub, gorse and juniper heather .
