August Theodor de Bary

August Theodor de Bary (born October 25, 1802 in Frankfurt am Main ; † March 27, 1873 ibid) was a doctor and politician of the Free City of Frankfurt .

August Theodor was the son of the merchant Isaac de Bary (1778-1821) and his wife Augusta Dorothea Friederica Pilgrim (1778-1854). The marriage had 10 children, including Jakob de Bary, who was a long-time member of the board of the Carolinum in Frankfurt.

After attending grammar school in Düsseldorf, he studied medicine in Bonn and Heidelberg. In Bonn he became a member of the Corps Rhenania in 1822 and received his doctorate there in 1825.

De Bary was a doctor in Frankfurt am Main. He was a member of the Legislative Body in 1846 and 1884. On October 25, 1848, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly of the Free City of Frankfurt . On January 5, 1850, he declared his resignation.

August Theodor de Bary was married to Caroline Emilie Meyer (1805-1887) and had ten children with her. One son was the scientist and physician Heinrich Anton de Bary (1831-1888). A grandson August de Bary (1874–1954) was also a doctor and from 1933 to 1954 chairman of the administrators of the Dr. Senckenberg Foundation.
