Erlach is a district of Renchen in the Ortenaukreis ( Baden-Württemberg ).

location

Erlach is located on the western edge of the Black Forest in the Ortenau and is a district of Renchen. The Rench flows through the village and flows into the Rhine at Rheinau Helmlingen. The fertile soils and the favorable climate for fruit and wine growing in the Upper Rhine Graben make a significant contribution to the fact that agriculture is still an important pillar in Erlach today. In 2006 the village received the silver medal in the competition "Our village should be more beautiful". The Rench divides the village into 2 parts: the front village (including a rectory, town hall) and the rear village (including a church). The Hinterdorf has the Mühlekanal and the Brunnenbächle, which used to be the border between the lords of Ortenau and Oberkirch.

coat of arms

The Erlacher coat of arms is held in red and shows a golden crown set with blue precious stones, including the golden place symbol - a crescent moon with a cross attached. The village coat of arms is depicted on the Erlacher Bridge.

history

Until the 19th century

Erlach can be counted among the settlements that emerged in this region between 500 and 700 AD under Frankish rule. The place name is interpreted as "Erlenwald am Bach" ( Rench ) and changed in the course of history the name from Erlehe 1285, Erleche, Erleiche 1411 to Erlach 1533. The place was first mentioned in 1285 and arose from three farms. In 1548 the place was burned down by a resident. Due to its special geographical location, at the transition from the Renchtal to the Rhine Plain, Erlach was often destroyed and devastated during the Peasant Wars and the Thirty Years' War. For this reason there are hardly any buildings that were erected before the beginning of the 17th century. This destruction has significantly influenced Erlach's development over the past three centuries. Erlach belonged to the episcopal-Strasbourg rule of Oberkirch , Ulm court and was represented within the Ulm court by a Heimburger. From 1808 the place was a bailiwick administered by Ulm and became an independent municipality in 1832. From 1840 to 1893, 93 residents emigrated to America.

20th and 21st centuries

On January 1st, 1975 Erlach was incorporated into Renchen.

Winning the silver medal in the competition “ Our village should become more beautiful ” in 2006 is also thanks to the voluntary commitment of the citizens. Other larger projects were the general renovation of the church, the expansion of the community road to Renchen and a section in the direction of Ulm, in the context of which bike paths were also laid. The development of building areas as well as road and sewer rehabilitation measures round off the development.

church

The Catholic Church of St. Anastasius was built in 1511 and was then a branch of St. Mauritius in Ulm. From 1569 a weekly mass was to take place there, from 1775 every Sunday - which was rarely practiced. In 1861 the parish became a curate and in 1876 its own parish. Today's (2010) parish church of St. Anastasius and St. Edith Stein was built between 1884 and 1885, with the tower from 1511 being retained but increased. The church book has existed since 1862.
