The Erlauzwieseler See , also Erlauzwieseler Stausee , Kurparksee Erlauzwiesel or Erlauzwieseler Weiher is a reservoir near Waldkirchen in the Bavarian Forest . It is located in the town of Erlauzwiesel about 2.5 km east of the center of Waldkirchen.

The fish pond

In 1472 the Passau bishop Ulrich von Nussdorf acquired the mill court at Erlauzwiesel. Here he had a six to seven hectare fish pond created by the damming of the Reichermühlbach. According to a document from 1691, the first known pond keeper, Caspar Lang, was also responsible for the forest and hunting supervision and was licensed. After secularization in Bavaria , the pond came into the possession of the Bavarian state. He let the pond drain in 1806 and sold the property, which was 21 days in size, to 21 interested parties.

The new system

Since 1962 the municipality of Ratzing has been planning to build a lake to promote tourism. In 1969/70 the community bought around 15 hectares of the poorly productive meadow areas. The pond was completed before Ratzing was incorporated into Waldkirchen in 1970. The Reichermühlbach ran past the lake and only fed it with fresh water via a branch pipe.

The Hein & Co company has been building a holiday village on the east bank of the lake since 1972. This Jägerwiesen holiday park has 102 buildings in the form of all-roof houses and flat-roof bungalows.

The spa gardens

With the construction of the spa park, efforts were made to renovate the pond so that bathing should also be possible. The inlet through the Reichermühlbach was closed and 65,000 m³ of sludge removed. Then the system was divided into a pre-pond and a main pond. The water from the less polluted Schambach stream is fed into the pre-pond via the old engine duct. The pre-pond has a length of 120 meters, a width of 56 meters, a surface area of 6,800 m² and a volume of 4,000 m³. The dwell time in the pre-pond, during which fine particles can settle, is about eight days.

The water is then channeled through the main dam. The dam must not be entered in order to avoid a change in the filter effect. In order to drain the pond, if necessary, a bottom drain was built into the main pond.

The Kurparkweg connects the Erlauzwieseler See with the town of Waldkirchen. The most conspicuous building on the shore is the floating stage, the center of all kinds of cultural events.
