The Erlau is a left tributary of the Danube in the Bavarian Forest in Lower Bavaria .

Run and landscape

The Eger is created by the confluence of Saußbach and Pfeffermühlbach southwest of Waldkirchen . The Saußbach rises in the Erlauzwieseler See southeast of Waldkirchen and flows from there in a westerly direction through the Saußbachklamm south past Waldkirchen. The Pfeffermühlbach is created by the confluence of several smaller streams northeast of Waldkirchen and flows around Waldkirchen to the north. From the confluence of Saußbach and Pfeffermühlbach near Saßbach, the river is finally called Erlau . Between the villages of Ausernbrünst and Denkhof , it is the district boundary and finally changes in two bends to the south, with the course of the river between Büchlberg and Kaindlmühle running slightly southeast. In the village of Erlau (Obernzell) the Erlau flows into the Danube.

Between Erlau and Kaindlmühle, the Passau – Hauzenberg railway follows the course of the river. From Kaindlmühle the railway line follows the course of the Staffelbach to Hauzenberg.
