Alexandre Moret
Alexandre Moret (born September 19, 1868 in Aix-les-Bains , † February 2, 1938 in Paris ) was a French Egyptologist and philologist .
After studying with Victor Loret in Lyon and with Gaston Maspero in Paris, he taught himself first in Lyon. Then in 1899 he moved to the École pratique des hautes études , where he last worked as Directeur d'Études d'Égyptologie until 1920 . Most recently he worked at the Sorbonne and the Collège de France . He was mainly concerned with the ancient Egyptian religion , legal theory and history . Moret, who did not conduct any field research himself and was never in Egypt, is considered a formative personality in French Egyptology of his time.
