Ernán López-Nussa

Ernán López-Nussa Lekszycki (born September 10, 1958 in Havana ) is a Cuban jazz pianist and composer .

Life

Ernán López-Nussa was born in 1958 as the fourth child of the Cuban illustrator, book designer and art critic Leonel López-Nussa (1916-2004) from his marriage to the French academic Wanda Lekszycka. He studied classical piano at the renowned Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. He began his career in 1977 as a member of the Afrocuba jazz septet founded by trumpeter Roberto Garcia López. With the group he also made his first international appearance at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London .

He has won numerous prizes and awards and is one of the leading and most influential jazz musicians in Cuba today. In recent years he has mainly appeared as a soloist and in the piano trio.

López-Nussa is married to the writer Wendy Guerra . López-Nussa is one of several professional musicians in his family, including the jazz pianist Harold López-Nussa as his nephew .

Figuraciones

His composition Figuraciones became well known . The work, originally written for piano solo, was also arranged for three pianos by the Chilean composer Alejandro Riquelme. This version belongs to the repertoire of the Germany-based trio Xinowa Sej, consisting of the pianists Zsuzsa Balint , Kyoko Hosono and Dunja Robotti . The trio also recorded figurations for Bayerischer Rundfunk and a CD.
