The Instituto Superior de Arte (short form: ISA ; also: Universidad de las Artes ) is a university educational institution in Havana , Cuba , which was founded in 1976. The founding rector was the educator and art critic Mario Rodríguez Alemán .

The ISA initially consisted of three faculties : Fine Arts ( Artes Plásticas ), Drama ( Artes Escénicas ) and Music . In 1987 and 1989 the faculties of dance art ( Arte Danzario ), specializing in ballet , contemporary and folklore dance , and the faculty of media in audiovisual communication ( Medios de Comunicación Audiovisual ) were added. In 1994 the faculties of dance and drama were merged for economic reasons.

The institute had a total of 1400 students in the 2012/2013 academic year, 552 of them in face-to-face study and 848 in part-time study. Of the total of 1400 students, 809 were women, and 302 in face-to-face studies.

In the German-speaking area, the ISA has been working together with the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle since 2009 and has been running the “Lyceum Mozartiano de La Habana” training center together with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation as the home of a classical youth orchestra in Havana.
