Ernest the Vampire ( French Ernest le vampire ) is the name of a French cartoon series by François Bruel . The first season was produced in 1988 and consisted of 13 episodes of two to three minutes each, the second in 1991 of 104 episodes. The plot is told only visually, the characters do not speak.

content

The pale vampire Ernest lives in an ancient castle with dragons , bats and similar creatures. Even for a vampire, Ernest has larger than average teeth and ears, which is explained by the relationship to an elephant .

In each episode, Ernest's own creativity and / or clumsiness becomes fatal and the scenario ends unpleasantly for him, often with his supposedly certain death. At this point, however, what is shown turns out to be a nightmare in every episode , which makes Ernest startle from his sleep in his coffin , whereupon he looks in shock with wide eyes towards the audience and then after a short moment closes the coffin lid again to go back to sleep .

Production and publication

The series was largely produced by the North Korean studio SEK . José Xavier was responsible for the animation and Gabriel Yared composed the music .

ICTV-Solferino distributes the series worldwide, including in Spain and Great Britain. After some episodes of the first season were broadcast as part of the ARD animation series Fearful Friends , the short episodes about Ernest became an integral part of the Käpt'n Blaubär Club in the 1990s . Some time later, the episodes were shown separately on the children's channel for the first time, not as part of a longer program.

The series was also released in German on VHS by Arcade / CIC.
