Ernest Bubley (born September 1912 , † January 21, 1996 in Edmonton ) was an English table tennis player who took part in five world championships and won bronze in the team competition in 1939.

Career

Ernest Bubley was left-handed. His strength was his backhand, which he could hit hard with. He always wore a glove on his left bat hand when playing, presumably to protect his skin, as he often played the violin.

Before World War II, he was one of the best players in England. In 1938 and 1939 he was nominated for the world championships. Here he came in fifth with the English team in 1938 and third in 1939. After the war he was still represented at the 1947 , 1948 and 1954 World Cups , where he finished seventh in the team competition in 1947 and fifth in 1948.

In addition to table tennis, Ernest Bubley indulged in numerous other activities. He was quite talented at bridge and snooker, and he also gave violin concerts.

In early 1948 he married Jaqueline Alge. With her he had a daughter (* February 1953). He died in 1996 at the age of 83.
