Érnest Gillet

Érnest Gillet (born September 13, 1856 in Paris ; † May 6, 1940 ibid) was a French cellist and composer of light music . He was the younger brother of the oboist Georges Gillet .

Life

He grew up in Paris and studied cello at the Paris Conservatory with Auguste Franchomme . In 1893 his operetta La Fille de la mère Michel was published , which he had composed with Daniel Riche. One of his best known pieces, Loin du bal , was used in the 1943 film The Dance Masters with Laurel and Hardy .
