Georges-Vital-Victor Gillet (born May 17, 1854 in Louviers , † February 8, 1920 in Bessoncourt ) was a French oboist, music teacher and composer.

Gillet studied from 1866 at the Conservatoire de Paris, first with Félix Berthélémy , after his death with Charles Colin , a student of Gustave Vogt , and in 1869 won first prize in the oboe subject. He was a member of the Orchester des Théâtre-Italien from 1872 to 1874 and played at the Concerts Colonne from 1872 to 1876 . From 1876 to 1899 he was a member of the Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire and from 1878 a member of the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique , whose solo oboist he became in 1895.

Since it was founded in 1879, he was a member of Paul Taffanel's Societe de Musique de Chambre pour Instruments a 'Vent , with which he gave regular concerts until the mid-1890s. a. original wind compositions by Handel , Mozart and Beethoven and works by contemporary composers such as Antonín Dvořák (1880) and Richard Strauss were performed. Benjamin Godard dedicated his Scenes Ecossaises to Gillet . In 1887 he went on a concert tour through Russia with Taffanal and Camille Saint-Saëns .

With the orchestra of the Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire under the direction of Edouard Deldevez , Jules Garcin and Paul Taffanel , Gillet played the classical symphonic repertoire, as well as works such as Liszt's Les Preludes , the overture to Wagner's Tristan and Isolde and performed with soloists such as Joseph Joachim , Eugène Ysaÿe and Pablo de Sarasate . He has played Handel's oboe concerto in G minor and Marie Félicie Clémence's oboe concerto several times.

In 1881, Gillet became the youngest professor of oboe in the history of the Conservatoire and taught here until 1918.
