Ernest Normand (* 1857 in London ; † 1923 there ) was a British genre painter .

He began as a student in the afternoon classes at St. Martin. In his spare time he drew ancient works of art in the British Museum . After studying painting in Germany, he returned to London in 1876. In 1880 he began his painting studies at the Royal Academy of Arts . Three years later he came to Paris to study with Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre .

From 1881 to 1904, Ernest Normand showed his works at the exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts. His painting was influenced by the works of the Pre-Raphaelites . A considerable part of his works are nudes .

In 1884 he married Henrietta Rae, a painter of the same age . The couple had two children, a son (born 1886) and a daughter (1893). In 1893 the Normands moved into a house and studio in London's bohemian Holland Park .

In 1900 Normand created the fresco “King John accepts the Magna Charta” in the Royal London Stock Exchange .
