Ernest Tjela

Ernest Tjela (born October 16, 1954 ) is a former Lesotho marathon runner .

From 1985 to 1987 he won the Peninsula Marathon in Cape Town three times in a row . His winning time of 2:11:47 h is still a course record today. At the South African marathon championship in 1986 he set his personal best in third with 2:11:00 h.

In 1987 he triumphed at the Port Elizabeth Marathon and the Columbus Marathon . The following year he won the Munich Marathon , and in 1989 he was third in the Los Angeles Marathon and won the San Francisco Marathon .

At the Pan-African Games in 1991 he won the silver medal.
