from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ernst Denert Foundation for Software Engineering was a foundation in the field of computer science that was founded in 1989 by Ernst Denert . It was dissolved in May 2019 and its assets were transferred to the Gerlind & Ernst Denert Foundation .

purpose

The foundation is non-profit, its "purpose is the promotion of science and research as well as education and training", according to the statutes, in the field of computer science, especially software engineering . It was established in 1989 as a non-incorporated foundation in the administration of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . Among other things, the foundation annually awards a software engineering prize, finances a professorship at the Technical University in Munich, and started the “Studying Computer Science!” Initiative in 2008. According to its own information, the foundation's assets are 2.3 million euros, which enables an annual funding volume of 60,000 euros.

Software engineering award

Since 1992, the Ernst Denert Foundation in Germany has been awarding an annual prize for software engineering to outstanding work in the field of methods, tools and processes in software development. The prerequisite is applicability and practical orientation. Commercial products are excluded. The prize is endowed with 5000 euros. In addition, a prize is awarded for the best diploma or master's thesis, endowed with 2000 euros.

Book project

The foundation has been promoting the creation of a software architecture project since 2014. A domain-specific approach is pursued, i.e. the focus on areas of application such as operational systems or technical systems . Four main perspectives ( application , construction , program , operation ) are compared with cross-sectional aspects (security, performance, error handling). In addition to didactic examples, the book also contains practical case studies. To this end, a collaboration with Wikimedia Germany was established.

University distribution

The foundation is also intended to promote interest in computer science studies. It is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture , the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Science and Research and the Hessian Ministry of Culture . Universities nationwide use the offer, such as the University of Passau TU Berlin, University of Trier, University of Kassel, University of Münster, University of Weimar, Ruhr University Bochum and many others.
