The Ernst-Haeckel-Gymnasium in Werder (Havel) , Brandenburg , was founded in August 1991. At the school named after Ernst Haeckel , pupils are taught in grades 5 to 12 ( Abitur after the 12th grade ).
History
In August 1991, classes began in the four-pass grades 7 and 8 in the old building of the expanded secondary school .
In 1993, on August 18, the foundation stone was laid for the first of the three construction phases of the new building. The laying of the foundation stone was accompanied by a demonstration against the threatened closure of their upper secondary schools in Lehnin and Ziesar.
Classes began on October 21, 1994 in the building of the first construction phase. The inauguration of the second construction phase was celebrated on June 3, 1999.
The Ernst-Haeckel-Gymnasium is one of 31 high schools in Brandenburg in which the establishment of a performance and gifted class (LuBK) was approved on the basis of the School Act passed on December 15, 2006. The 5th and 6th grades are the so-called LuBK classes.
On May 15, 2008 the foundation stone was laid for a new two-field gym, which was inaugurated on November 18, 2009. The old school building of the extended secondary school had previously been demolished in summer 2004.
Martin Erdmann has been the headmaster since February 1, 2018, replacing his long-term predecessor Jörg Ritter.
classes
The school has a wide range of offerings in the natural sciences, social sciences and artistic-linguistic areas. According to their interests, the students can decide for themselves which areas they want to deepen. In the compulsory elective area of grades 9 and 10, a wide range of compulsory elective courses is offered to enable this interest-based specialization. In the seminar course area in the upper level of the gymnasium, offers from all fields of activity are also submitted.
Fundamentally, the focus is on supporting and challenging the students. So z. E.g. the transition from elementary school to grammar school is made easier for some pupils through remedial instruction in grade 7. Likewise z. B. particularly talented pupils are addressed by the offer of the performance and talent classes. The various interests of the students are taken into account through the compulsory elective lessons. Many working groups (e.g. art, badminton and pop choir) and school competitions (e.g. Olympiads in the natural sciences and mathematics, youth debates and living antiquity) and projects also enrich the lessons.
In the performance and talent classes, the focus is on strengthening the independent learner and creating freedom for interest-based work.
From the school year 2021/2022, continuous bilingual lessons in the subjects of biology and history will be offered from grade 7. Further bilingual courses will be taught as early as the 2020/2021 school year with an optional compulsory subject.
