Ernst-Henning Jahn (born August 18, 1938 in Braunschweig ) is a German politician ( CDU ) who u. a. 1970-2003 Member of the Parliament of Lower Saxony , from 1990 to 2003 its vice president and 1981-1996 District Administrator of the district Wolfenbüttel was.

Life and work

Born in Braunschweig, Ernst-Henning Jahn grew up in his home village of Watzum , where he also attended elementary school. After attending secondary school in Schöppenstedt and high school in Wolfenbüttel , he passed the Abitur. He then studied history, German and political science for teaching at secondary schools in Göttingen . He then worked as a secondary school teacher in Schöppenstedt until 1970.

Political party

Ernst-Henning Jahn joined the CDU in 1956 at the age of 18. From 1970 to 2002 he was chairman of the CDU district association Wolfenbüttel, from 1977 to 1988 he was also regional chairman of the CDU regional association in Braunschweig and from February 23, 1976 to February 6, 1991 deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group.

In 1994 he was a ministerial candidate for the interior department in Christian Wulff's shadow cabinet . In this election campaign he was accused of beating up a 20-year-old when he tried to tear down CDU election posters. Jahn was reported and could not get rid of the accusation. For this reason, too, he lost the constituency that his party believed to be secure against his SPD rival Gerhild Jahn .

From 1968 to 1974 Jahn was a member of the council of the municipality of Watzum, after the regional reform from 1974 to 1991 of the council of the municipality of Uehrde. From 1968 until the territorial reform in 1974 he was also a councilor of the Südelm municipality and since the councilor of the Schöppenstedt municipality. Jahn has also been a member of the Wolfenbüttel district council since 1968, and from 1996 to 2006 he was chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group.

He was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1970 (7th electoral term) to 2003 (14th electoral term). When he left, he was the longest serving MP. From 1990 to 2003 he was Vice President of the Lower Saxony State Parliament.
