Ernst Adolf Pagenstecher

Ernst Adolf Pagenstecher , also Ernst August Pagenstecher (born June 30, 1826 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † February 10, 1901 in Heidelberg ) was a German law scholar and professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

life and work

Pagenstecher was the son of Alexander Pagenstecher . From 1854 he studied law at the universities of Berlin , Heidelberg and Bonn . In Bonn he received his doctorate in 1848. iur. He then returned to Heidelberg, where he completed his habilitation in Roman law on October 18 . From the summer semester of 1852 Pagenstecher read about the encyclopedia and the constitutional law of the Roman Republic . In 1861 he was appointed associate professor and later accepted into the rulings board of the Heidelberg law faculty. Out of dissatisfaction, however, he later asked for his release himself, which was granted to him in 1871. From then on he lived as a private citizen in Heidelberg until his death.

Pagenstecher's work is mainly shaped by his three-volume work on property theory, which has been carefully studied by science. In addition, he researched and taught mainly pandect science.
