Ernst Assmann (doctor)

Ernst Assmann (born March 31, 1849 in Berlin ; † January 11, 1926 there ) was a German doctor and scientist in the field of ancient seafaring.

From 1862 he attended the Royal High School in Quedlinburg, where he graduated from high school in 1867. He then studied medicine in Berlin. In 1870 he took part in the Franco-German War as a field doctor before continuing his studies, which he completed in 1872. He submitted his medical dissertation on mortality in the first year of life in 1873. Assmann worked as a doctor in Berlin-Charlottenburg , but at the same time did research in the field of classical antiquity, especially - as a result of his repeated activity as a naval doctor - in the area of ​​ancient seafaring. He was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute (from 1899) as well as a member of the Society for Geography (from 1884) and the Archaeological Society of Berlin . In 1909 he was appointed to the secret medical council. In 1919 he received the title of professor in recognition of his scientific work.
